The Mystery Of Godliness

Holiness Is In Mount Zion

The Apostolic Church is built upon godliness; which is the reverence and respect for God that evidences itself in worshipping Christ with a sanctified mind and body and, is that nature which is granted believers in the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth; it is the pillar and ground of the truth. Obadiah 1:17 said: " upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. As the Law ministers death, Christ ministers faith. The law ministers death because it punishes sin. The law is ordained to life, but it is against sin. Sin is the transgression of the law. Death is ministered by the law, because the law is a judges sin. The Law gives instruction about and reveal the will of God. It reveals those things which are excellent and approved by God. The Law contains the form of knowledge and truth; because the Law contains righteousness; it is the Law of righteousness; it contains the will and revelation of God to and for all humanity. Those things which are righteous and those things which are sinful are known by the Law. By the Law is the knowledge of sin. Righteousness is the fulfillment of the law. All the world by the Law is guilty before God. No flesh is justified by the Law, for the Law was given to judge sin; not to give Eternal life. The Law cannot give Eternal life. The Law tells us the qualifications needed to acquire Eternal life; but does not and cannot of it self provide Eternal Life. The Law is our school master. It is a tutor. It is a primer for faith. It does not provide faith; for it does not preach faith. It preaches what God requires of men. It has no means of implementation.

The Law works wrath: because sin is transgression of the Law. The Law charges sin against transgressors and punishes with death. The Law has dominion over all human flesh for as long as they live. The Law charges all humanity with Sin; because humanity cannot meet the requirements of the Law as regard to righteousness. Humanity cannot stand righteous before God by the Law; for to offend in one point is to be guilty of all. Sin in our flesh is at war against the Law. The sin we inherited from Adam, and our own personal sins is against the Law. Sin in our body is provoked by the Law. The Law is a provocation to sin, because is devilish. Simply because the Law said “Thou shall Love”; sin in our flesh say: “I will not Love”. The Law is not evil. Sin is evil. The Law is holy, just and good and is the revelation of the divine will of God. Sin is the revelation of the will of the flesh; and the two can not and will not agree. The Law is of God and sin is of the devil. It is the will of God that we observe the Ten commandments. It is both just and good to do so. The Law is spiritual: but we are carnal, sold under sin. Sin has sold us into slavery. Sin has made us subject to the penalty of death; to be executed by the Law.

The issue is how do we meet God’s standard for righteousness. How do we meet the requirements of the Law. For we do things we don’t want to do. We do things we hate; but the very things we hate we still do. If we do things we hate, we are consenting that the Law is good. So then it is not us that do the hateful things, but sin that dwells in our body. For in our flesh dwells no good thing: for intent is present; but knowledge of how to perform that which is good we cannot and do not find. But the knowledge of doing that which is evil we readily find. We find then a law, that, when we would do good, evil is present with me. For there is another law in our members, warring against the law of mind, and bringing us into captivity to the law of sin which is in our body. So then with our mind we acknowledge the Law is good while with our body we practice sin. The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the Law. Cursed is every one that continues not in all things which are written in the book of the Law to do them. (Rom 7:15-23).

Wherefore then serve the Law ? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. The mystery of godliness, speaks essentially to the putting down of sin in the flesh. It speaks of the dominion of the spirit over sin in the flesh. It speaks concerning destroying sin in our members. In a more specific sense, godliness means the capacity and ability to live free from sin. The practice of sin is the essential character of human flesh. The practice of sin is an inherited evil passed down through the genes from Adam thru our grand parents to us. As human beings we know only that which is sinful. We may at times desire to do those things which are just and good, but the truth is: all human flesh is condemned to the practice of sin and thus to death. Sin is the transgression of the Law; and the payment for living in and practicing sin, is death. (Gal 3:19).

The only possibility of living a life free from sin lies in the gift of godliness. The word “godliness” means holiness, piety, devoutness; it means to worship God in sanctification: the state of purity. Salvation is through sanctification of the spirit. Sanctification is acquired by obedience to the blood of Christ. Literally, he that practice sin is of the devil, for the devil from the very beginning sinned and still continues to sin. He that continues to practice sin is born of Satan: meaning that Satan is the provocateur in human flesh. Sin was first in Satan; then in the woman; than in the man. However, it was due to man’s sin’s that creation was made subject to corruption and decay. It was the sin of man that brought the entire creation to destruction. All of civilization, culture, ideologies, religions, governments, education, science, politics; indeed the mind and spirit in man is contaminated and infected with the sin virus. The sin virus permeates the entire cosmos.

The Lord Jesus Christ gave the Apostles the antidote against sin. The antidote against sin is the preaching of the Apostolic Gospel: “the faith of Jesus Christ”. Central to the strong assurance and confidence of Jesus of Galilee, is his awareness that his crucifixion and resurrection is essential and sufficient for salvation. Jesus of Galilee came to destroy sin; and by default this meant the destruction of Satan; for Satan is the author of sin.

Baptism into the name of Jesus Christ and obedience to Apostolic Gospel destroys the power sin in human nature. Obedience to the sprinkled blood of Jesus Christ, in the doctrine of the apostles is the only antidote against the sin virus, and the only wherewithal to live a life free from the practice and dominion of sin. Living free from sin is: “godliness”. Godliness is made possible by the coming in the flesh of God. God was manifest in the flesh and justified in the spirit.

Jesus Christ came in the flesh. There was no sin or guile found in him. He is the perfect Son of God. He is God made flesh; for he took not the nature of angels, but he took upon himself human nature, and by faith condemned sin in the flesh. Jesus Christ, judged and condemned sin in his body. In his body Jesus Christ fulfilled the requirements of the Law. He met the Law’s demand for righteousness. He perfectly manifested the will and divine intention of God. He is the Lord from heaven. The first born of every creature and the first begotten of the dead. Christ Jesus, through his sacrificial death on the cross made an atonement for sin. He reconciled us the Godhead, not imputing our transgression to us. Christ Jesus, in his death on the cross, announced and celebrated victory over sin, death and hell. His celebration was not a negative victory. It was not simply a victory over Stan, sin, death and hell. More importantly, it was Zion’s translation from darkness to light; it was Zion being raised up again from her fallen and devastated state. It was the resurrection of the tabernacle of David which had fallen. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and his exaltation to the heavenly realm is the announcement that Jesus Christ is King of all creation enthroned in the seat of majesty in Zion. The same power that Jesus consisted of, dwells in the believer to make the believer like Jesus.

As many as have been baptized in the name of Jesus Christ have been baptized into Christ. Baptism of water and spirit upon godly repentance, purges the soul of sin; it rids sin from the soul; it breaks the curse and habit of sin. The apostles preached that Jesus Christ forgives and places sin in remission. The Lord Jesus Christ, releases from the bondage and imprisonment of sin. The Lord Jesus Christ forgives, pardon, puts away sin: letting them go as if they had never been committed; remission of sin and its penalty. Remission of sin means: freedom, deliverance, liberty, pardon and forgiveness; it means to cease to continue sinning; it means to stop sinning; to cease from our sinful works.

The apostles remembered that Jesus Christ taught them that freedom from sin and it’s consequences was the principal benefit of his death and resurrection; and that deliverance from sin, that thing most hateful to God, granted status in the fellowship of the redeemed. The fellowship of the redeemed is the fellowship were Christ sits as High Priest in the temple of Zion. In the temple of Zion we are lively stone. We are members of the body of Christ. We are bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. I believe that, according to the apostle’s doctrine, Jesus Christ makes us as he is, even in this world; and it is in this faith we both grow and increase with the increase of God. I believe that, we do not cease sinning daily; but rather that we grow in the perfect and ever increasing awareness of the great that work, which Christ has already done.
